Little Celery Table...

...or is it a desk?  Either way I found it when my husband and I were running some errands last summer.  We drove by a house that was having a yard sale in the middle of the week.  I don't know about where you live, but most yard sales are on the weekend around here.  The little table/desk caught my eye, and yes, I made him turn the car around.  Long story short, the woman sold me the table for $5 simply because she wanted to get rid of it....Winning!
It looked nothing like this when I found it.  Here's a peek:
I loved the legs and the curve of the top.  What you can't see in the picture is the front skirt was loose and tipped making it impossible to slide the drawer.  We turned it over and found that the corner supports were not attached.
There were nails and a bolt, neither were doing their job.  Here's a look from another angle:
My husband volunteered to get this straightened out and pulled that corner support out completely.
He did the same with the one on the other side and straightened the front skirt of the table.  Once that was done, he straightened the nails in the supports.
The bolt was the most important part, but since the nails were there (and now straight) he decided to use them too.
With that repair complete and the drawer now working properly, I turned my attention to the top.  I loved the wood and wanted to preserve it so I started sanding and no matter how I tried, I could not get those crosscut lines to disappear.
There was also a funny 'swirl' across the top that you can see in the picture below.  Neither imperfection was going away and it was also veneer, so I didn't have much depth either.  I decided it would have to be painted and gave the entire table a quick scuff.
After a coat of primer, the entire table was painted in 'Celery', a pale green chalk paint.
I loved the green, but the top needed a little more, so out came the stencils.
Stenciled in antique gold, the top was now dressed-up.
I decoupaged the drawer with a napkin and spray-painted the knob antique gold.

Now I need to find a chair to match.  If my search goes anything like the bench for the dressing table, it could be a while!  Stay tuned.....

I found a chair...Check it out HERE.

    2. That was a nice job. I wanna try an all decoupage desk or an all stencil before I take it to the next level.
