Vintage Satin Ornament

Image
November is here and, for many of us, our thoughts turn to the holidays.  If you have scraps of fabric taking up space I have the perfect way to use them and create new ornaments for your Christmas tree.   It's time once again for  The Sustainable Pinterest Challenge , a group of bloggers who are challenged to recreate a pin from Pinterest focused on sustainability. Many thanks to  Julie from Sum of Their Stories   for hosting.  This month we are sharing something 'Christmas'.  My inspiration came from this pin but I decided to 'glam it up' a bit with some vintage satin.   It all started with a clear plastic ornament from the dollar store. It came with a nice silver cord that could be used for hanging. Cut a square of fabric large enough to go around your ornament.  This was a piece of satin from a vintage wedding gown.  I can't give you a size since it depends on the size of your ornament.  Wrap it around the ornament and...

Wine Bottle Luminary

Image
Bottle cutting is a thing and to be completely honest, I'm not very good at it.   The instructions make it sound so easy...etch the bottle, alternate hot and cold, the bottle breaks along the etching.  Simple enough...except I had 3 bottles break and NOT along the etching!  Sorry, no pics.  Fortunately, the 4th one broke the way it was intended: Look at that!  Perfection! No worries.   I promise to drink more wine so I can get better at this hobby. This post may contain affiliate links. Many thanks to  Julie from Sum of Their Stories  for hosting. This month's theme is 'Upcycle' and my inspiration came from this pin , but I decided to 'kick it up a notch' and use more of the bottle.   This is the bottle cutter I use. After cutting the bottle, I used wet sandpaper ...

Updating a Thrift Store Plaque

Image
This little plaque   was sitting on a thrift store shelf with a price tag of $2.  I could see it was solid wood, but that cute little bear was straight out of the 80's.   It came home with me and sat.... in the closet... waiting patiently... for 2 years!    I came across it again, took it outside and gave it a good coat of Citristrip.  Once it was cleaned off and sanded it went back into the closet.... for another 2 years!    Go ahead, call me a Procrastinator.  I can take it!   Welcome to  The Sustainable Pinterest  Challenge , a group of bloggers who are challenged to recreate a pin from Pinterest focused on sustainability. Many thanks to  Julie from Sum of Their Stories  &  Gail from Purple Hues and Me  for hosting.   The theme for this month is 'Thrift Store' and I was inspired by this pin because of the shape. I honestly started with a  completely different plan for this s...

Recipe Cabinet Redo

Image
This little recipe cabinet caught my eye a few weeks ago on Marketplace.  It needed an update and since it was going in my craft room, the color choice was easy. That's right, it's no longer a recipe cabinet.  It's been repurposed along with its 'redo'. If you look closely at the front, there are two small holes that I'm fairly sure used to hold a gold eagle in place.  You know the ones I'm talking about - circa 1970? Ring a bell?  My mother had wooden canisters with them...ah, memories! Welcome to The Sustainable Pinterest  Challenge , a group of bloggers who are challenged to recreate a pin from Pinterest focused on sustainability. Many thanks to  Julie from Sum of Their Stories  &  Gail from Purple Hues and Me  for hosting.   This month the theme is "Recipe" and I was inspired by this  pin .  The color of the cabinet and the white knobs were the true inspiration.  Let's get started, shall we? The first o...
