Wind Chime - Wine and Copper

Image
Did I mention it's still summer at the Cottage?  It's hot and humid and while so many others are starting to embrace fall, I'm hanging on to summer until after Labor Day.   That being said, let me introduce you to my latest wind chime project.   This post may contain affiliate links. It started with a wine bottle.  The bottom was cut off and the edges were carefully sanded.  I use a bottle cutter for the job and I've shared my technique before, so I won't bore you with all those details.  I also wear eye protection .   I've never had a bottle shatter/spray glass while doing this, but better safe than sorry! After sanding the edges, I applied some copper tape around the bottom. It just makes a pretty edge. Then I screwed eyes into an old bottle stopper and a wooden mushroom that was leftover from my Glam Girl Terracotta Planter  (I'm a big fan of 'Use what you've got'!) , connecting them with a piece of leftover necklace from my l...

A Wine Bottle Gets a New Life

Image
That's right, my friends.  Don't toss your old wine bottles until you see this transformation.  You may remember the Wine Bottle Torches  (that are perfect for your outdoor space) that I made last summer and my use of the rest as a vase.  That part needed an improvement, so let me show you what I did.   Welcome to the  Creative Craft Hop  hosted by Donna from Modern on Monticello  this month.   If you just came from Sara @ Birdz of a Feather ,   welcome to the Cottage!  At the bottom of this post I'll direct you to the next stop on this hop, but be sure to visit all of the other stops for some amazing inspiration. They will all be listed. Now, back to my wine bottle.   A 1.5 liter wine bottle.   The large one that you share with friends!   Once you drink the wine, rinse it out, and remove the label, it's time to cut the bottle.   This post may contain affiliate links. This post may contain affiliate links.   Are you ready for another upcycle project for your outdoor space?  I hope so, because I'm back with one more that I just love !  I've been having much more success with bottle cutting now that I've figured out a new technique.   W elcome to the 'Do It Over' Designers blog hop.  We are a group of bloggers who love to recycle/upcycle/DIY.   This time we are sharing all things 'glass'.   I'm happy to host this hop and I hope you'll visit everyone to see what they have to share with you.  Their links will be listed at the end of this post. This project begins with a bottle: Blue is my color and I absolutely LOVE that I've found wine that comes in blue bottles! Before we get started, my PSA:    Put on safety goggles .  You're working with glass and you only get one set of eyes!   I've never had a bottle shatter/spray glass while doing this, but better safe than sorry! The first step...

How to Make a Wine Bottle Torch

Image
This post may contain affiliate links. It's Summertime and that means more outdoor time.  I've been busy using my bottle cutter to make some 'pretties' for our balcony.  I'm an avid Upcycler/Recycler/DIYer and this is an easy one.  Come along and let me show you what I did! Blue is my color.  I wear it, I decorate with it, and I'm always drawn to it.  How lucky am I to find a wine that comes in a beautiful blue bottle? This is the larger (1.5L) bottle.  Definitely one to be shared with friends! After drinking the wine and removing the label, it's time to get out the bottle cutter .  This is the one I use: I've had it for a few years and now that I've figured out the trick to clean breaks I can honestly say it's the best!   The first step to bottle cutting is etching a line where you want the bottle to break or separate.  After adjusting the cutter (it's very easy) for where you want the cut, it's a simple as rotating the bottle on the c...
