'No Yarn' Loop Yarn Christmas Trees

That's right, my friends they are Loop Trees and there isn't a bit of yarn in them! I'm back with another crafty project that is made with a mop from the dollar store.  If you missed the last two projects, be sure to check out the Five Little Ghosties and The 'Sweater-Look' Pumpkin.  You'll also see the mop I used.
Let's move on to the trees and how they were made beginning with the loop tree on the right.
You will need a mop and a styrofoam cone.  After removing the mop strands, begin cutting them in 3-inch lengths.
I honestly can't tell you how many you'll need since it depends on your cone.  Just cut a bunch and go from there.
I began attaching the loops on the cone with a little overhang on the bottom.
In the interest of full disclosure, I started putting the hot glue on the cone and discovered it melted the styrofoam.  Of course it did - Silly me!  Then I put the glue on the ends of the loops first, pressed them on the cone, and had much more success.
Here's a peek from the bottom:
The first row was done...
and I continued all the way up the cone...
...until I ran out of mop.  I almost made it to the top with the leftovers from previous projects...back to the dollar store!
Two more rows of loops and the top was finished by looping two strands around the raw edges. Some pearls were added from an old haircomb that was included a jar of vintage jewelry.
The wood bead was the final touch.
One done!
I then decided to try another one with longer loops.
These were cut to 5" and I completed 2 rows with them.  Then I cut more to 4" and continued all the way up the cone.
There was one more row added with the ends extending above the top of the cone.  I swirled some glue inside...
...pressed the ends together and added a pearl earring as the topper.
Now, take a look at the yellow color in the mop strand.  This showed up in a few spots.  All I did was take a pin and pull out the yellow.  It wasn't even a strand.  It was just a bit of fluff.

I thought about embellishing the trees with beads or sparkles, but decided to stick with the 'less is more' theory.
I now have two new trees to decorate with and a bunch of extra mop strands. I'm trying to think of another project that will use them.
Any ideas?

  9. Adorable way to use Dollar Tree mop heads! Thanks for sharing on Happiness is Homemade at LifeasaLEOWife.com! I have a ton of Mardi Gras beads that I could use at the top like you used on your first tree. I've got to find a way to get rid of those suckers! HA!

  11. Those turned out so cute! I like the idea of using mop yarn. I'll bet if someone who has really chunky yarn taking up space in her stash were to substitute that, she'd like the look, too. (I'm not talking about anyone in particular...lol)
