Last Estate Sale for 2020

Everyone loves a good Estate Sale. right? The only problem in this day and age is going when there isn't a crowd.  That's why I went to this one during the last hour of the sale.  It was held in a beautiful Victorian house not far from me and even though it was the last hour, I scored some great pieces.
The first thing that caught my eye was the jewelry.  The dining room table was covered in it and there were two jars filled with random pieces.  Sadly they were marked $10 each.  A little too rich for my blood because, let's face it, I'm cheap I mean, 'frugal'.
I did get them, but they're part of the story.  Keep reading....
I'll tell you about the scissors in a minute.
I kept looking and spied two silver bowls on top of a cabinet.
A friend has been looking for bowls like these and when the gentleman running the sale heard me say that, he cut the price in half.  The hunt was on!
The next room I went into was the sewing room where I found the pinking shears made by Wiss for only $2.  They were set aside with the bowls.  The room was a bit of a mess with most of the fabric and trim picked over, but I found this beautiful dress and jacket.
Every pearl is sewn on this outfit - no glue here!
I can't tell you why, but I fell in love with it.  I have nowhere to wear it and I wasn't even sure it would fit.
OK, the jacket fits and yes, that's Rosie 'photo-bombing' in the background!
It was $20 and my husband - aka 'The Enabler' told me to get it.  It was set aside with the bowls and the scissors.

Up the stairs we went to a room filled with wedding gowns. They were gorgeous, but I was not in the market for one.  The next stop was the room filled with holiday decorations, silk flowers, wreaths, etc.  Since it was the end of the day, it was pretty picked-over, but I found this sweet set of wings made from feathers for $5.  Who can resist wings made of feathers?
Back downstairs we went where I added the wings to the dress, scissors, and bowls.  Out of the corner of my eye was a beautiful silver plate for a dollar.  I grabbed it!
It looks white from the reflection off the ceiling!
It was time to 'Wheel & Deal'.  I really wanted the jars of jewelry, but there was no way I was paying $10 per jar.  With everything bundled together I asked how much for all of it AND the jars of jewelry.  The gentleman running the sale looked at me, thought for a minute, and said, '$30'.  Seriously??  I couldn't get the cash out fast enough!
That's right, the dress, scissors, bowls, plate, wings, and two jars of jewelry for 30 bucks.  I did a little Happy Dance.....
If you've been doing any math while reading, the total was pretty incredible.  Considering the dress was $20, wings-$5, scissors-$2, and silver plate-$1.  That's $28 dollars and there were still 2 silver bowls and 2 jars of jewelry.  I think I got a deal!
The bowls have been sent to my friend (she really likes them, btw) and I have plans for everything else....any guesses as to what I'll be doing with my latest finds?

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope all is well with you in your part of the world.

  2. Love all your finds but especially the Wiss scissors! Do they still cut? I wonder if pinking shears can be sharpened!

    1. Thank you and yes, the scissors cut. The woman who lived in the house was a seamstress and once owned a shop. I asked if I could test them before I bought them. They cut like a dream and they can be sharpened!

  5. what a great deal... I love bargain hunting and of my personal tricks is to go twice if I have time. Once the first day of the sale to see if there are any great buys I just can not live without and again at the end of the sale when the real bargain wheelin and dealin can take place. Thanks for sharing love all your great finds

  6. Thanx for sharing your great finds. Enjoyed them all! I would wear that lace jacket over basic black and wait for the compliments to roll in! The angel wings with their elastic straps reminded me of a Christmas program where I had my adult developmentally disabled class in the Christmas play. The church was warm and one wanted to take her child-size wings off her adult-sized body when our part was done. Well, in the process, the elastic broke and hit her right in the cheek. To her credit, she didn't let out a peep (from the front pew in church!). I felt so bad; never occurred to me that the darn things would be tight on an adult. Thanx for reviving that memory for me!

  12. P.S. Wear the new dress and jacket proudly! They are gorgeous!! I refashioned a 1980's gold beaded dress into a 1920's dress for last year's IOOF dinner that I hosted ~ https://www.frenchethereal.net/2019/10/sentimental-reasons-1920s-evening-to.html
