Wind Chime - Wine and Copper

Did I mention it's still summer at the Cottage?  It's hot and humid and while so many others are starting to embrace fall, I'm hanging on to summer until after Labor Day.  
That being said, let me introduce you to my latest wind chime project.

It started with a wine bottle.  The bottom was cut off and the edges were carefully sanded.  I use a bottle cutter for the job and I've shared my technique before, so I won't bore you with all those details.  I also wear eye protection.  I've never had a bottle shatter/spray glass while doing this, but better safe than sorry!
After sanding the edges, I applied some copper tape around the bottom.
It just makes a pretty edge.

Then I screwed eyes into an old bottle stopper and a wooden mushroom that was leftover from my Glam Girl Terracotta Planter (I'm a big fan of 'Use what you've got'!) , connecting them with a piece of leftover necklace from my last Dress Form Rescue.
Once that was done, I strung some beads from my collection on fishing line and attached them to the bottle stopper.
The top of the stopper was wrapped in copper wire.
That silver eye also needed some camouflage - more copper wire!
I used the copper wire as the hanger, attaching it to the wooden mushroom and threading it through the bottle neck.  
There was no need to hide the mushroom since it would be hidden by...yes, you guessed it, copper wire wrapped around the bottle neck!

    Your wind chime turned out really cute, Ann! But I must say that although you and I are both enjoying summer as long as we can, the design of your gorgeous wind chime does remind me of Fall with you using copper tape and copper wire! And there's nothing wrong with that! You know as crafters, we have to get a running start right now on making all things fall and perhaps a little xmas to get our inspirations and creations out there! Your project is a win, win for both summer and fall! I love it!

      You caught that, Gail! I did use those colors on purpose...a gentle nod to the upcoming season. I'm so glad you like it and I guess Fall will be here before we know it!

    Ann, that is just gorgeous! It's a true work of art. You have such great vision and your attention to design detail makes all the difference. I love the copper edging and like Gail said, I too noticed your gentle ode to fall. Practical, gorgeous and perfect year round!

    Oh my goodness Ann, I am in love with this creation! I do love windchimes, they remind me of my grandparents, my grandpa made many of them over the years. I recall waking to them in the summer months when I stayed at their place on the river. Love the copper wire, you are getting ready for fall, aren't you. I think you missed your calling, a jewelry maker, and windchime designer all wrapped up into one! I have to say, I am ready for the cooler temps and a bit of a breeze to get this gal outside for long, relaxing walks with my pup.

Wine Cork Wreath

Just a note...I promised to share the wreath and picture in a previous post.  Here they are: Now, if you're anything like me, you've been saving wine corks for forever because there is a fabulous project that you will just HAVE to make with them.  The problem is, you haven't found it yet! Have no fear, your project is here! To get started, you will need lots of these: How many, you ask?  I estimate that I used between 200 and 250 corks.  You will also need a straw wreath, like this: Don't forget to remove the plastic! This next step is extremely important! Wrap some wire around the wreath and make a loop for hanging.  There is nothing worse than getting your wreath all done and then say to yourself, "Hmmm, how the heck do I hang this thing!?! How To Decoupage Dresser Drawers - With Napkins!

Welcome back!  Last week you saw a garage sale dresser transformed with paint and decoupaged napkins.  If you missed it, click here .  Today I have a little tutorial showing how it was done.  Let's get started, shall we? The drawers were sanded down to bare wood and the edges were painted black to match the rest of the dresser.  The napkins were found at the Dollar Store. Notice they are 2-ply napkins?  You only need one, so separate those layers! Iron the one-layer.  It helps when you are ready to lay it down on the wet decoupage medium.   Since the napkins were not wide enough to cover the entire drawer, I was going to have to piece them together.  These napkins also had a very definite pattern that was going to need matching, so it was time for some measuring.  I found the middle of the drawer and matched it to the middle of the napkin.  Then I marked the edges of the napkin on the edge of the drawer with chalk.  See the white (chalk) dot? No More Polycrylic for My Tables!

Behold, my newly refinished table - once again!  Yes, this is the second time this little beauty has been refinished. The table was originally refinished in 2013.  I carefully sanded, stained, and sealed it with polycrylic.  Everyone in blogland was singing the praises of polycrylic, so I thought I'd give it a try.  It went on great, clean-up was easy, and it dried quickly.   Win-Win, right?  WRONG!! After about a year and a half, I started noticing some wear on the edges of the table.  You know, the spot where people rest their arms?  As time went on, these spots actually started to feel a bit sticky and you could see them: It was really difficult to get a picture of them, but, if you look carefully where the arrows are pointing, you'll see dull spots in the finish.  We lived with it for a while, then I told my husband, "As soon as the weather gets nice, this table has a date with my sander!"
