Dough Bowl Decorating for Winter

Happy New Year! I'm back for a new year of 'Just My Style'.  It's that time of year when everyone is talking about Resolutions, Color of the Year, and Upcoming Trends.  My answer to all of that is:  Nope, Nope, and Nope!  I've always steered completely away from all of that.  I gave up on New Year Resolutions in my early 20's and believe me, that was a long time ago!   Color of the Year?  Who cares?  I use colors I like.  And upcoming trends...hmmm, there's never been a buffalo check, tiered tray, or shiplap wall in my home.  I decorate with the things I love giving me a very eclectic style that suits me, and, isn't that what it's all about? Do what makes you happy and surround yourself with the things you love!  That being said, lets move on....

Christmas is packed away for another year at the Cottage and there are still a few more months until Spring, so I decided to do a little winter decorating with my mini dough bowl.  You may remember this fabulous yard sale find from last summer.  Honestly, I'm not really sure it even IS a dough bowl.  The bottom isn't flat, it's small. but I liked it - especially for a dollar!

You don't need much for this little project:

*Don't have a dough bowl?  Let's face it, I'm not even sure I do!  Use another shallow bowl you have sitting in the closet.  Another option is a tray.  Shop your house and see what you have that will work!

The first step is placing the fairy lights inside the bowl.  I used a little Sticky Putty to keep them in place.
Then I covered the lights with some Poly-fill.
I know, it looks awful right now but, stay with me!
Nestle the trees in the Poly-fill.
Even without a flat bottomed bowl, the poly-fill holds the trees in place.
Turn on the lights!
The craft room table is not the best place for display, so.....
Better, but as it got darker...
Best!
I love how the poly-fill looks like snow and the lights give it a warm glow.  Just perfect for these cold winter nights, especially tonight since snow is in the forecast!

How do you decorate for winter?

  5. I am with you on this - no color, new resolutions! I do it as and when it happens and enjoy what I am doing. It may not be what others do, but I do not imitate others and do it the best I can and love it.

  7. Your dough bowl is lovely with the fairy lights, bottle brush trees and "snow." I decorate for winter with snowmen and snow globes. I have a collection of snow globes I use and, this year, I decorated a snowman tree after I took the Christmas decorations down. Enjoyed your post!

  10. I love the way you are like NOPE... I agree, trends come and go, make your home you. This is an adorable idea Ann. It looks like snow, and the glow from the lights reminds of me of those perfect nights playing in the snow with our pup. So much fun!
