Cookbook Stand Makeover
Welcome back to the 'Do It Over' Designers blog hop. We are a group of bloggers who love to recycle/upcycle/DIY. I'm happy to host this hop and I hope you'll visit everyone to see what they have to share with you. Their links will be listed at the end of this post.
There wasn't the usual amount of yard-saling (that's a word, right?) this year, but I did manage to catch a couple of them between putting the house on the market, packing, moving, and unpacking. It was at one of them I found this cookbook stand:
It was pretty, but the bracket wasn't attached, the base needed re-gluing and the flower design was a decal. I decided to give it a makeover. The first step was to get rid of the finish and decal on the front. Citristrip took care of that for me. Once I saw the wood was different colors, I decided to paint it, so I added a little stain to the edges for distressing.
I gave it two coats of white spray paint and use some sandpaper to distress the edges.
I decided it would say, 'Bon Appetit' so I made a stencil with my Maker and painted it with pink paint.
It needed still needed something else, so I added a bracket from another stencil I had in my craft room. I had to mix the color to match the blue of the bracket and the base.
At this point, it looked like this:
The bracket was attached.
And the base was re-glued.
The makeover was done.
A cookbook stand with a brand new look!
This is a blog hop so be sure to visit everyone else to see their wonderful projects! They are all listed below.

Great makeover Ann and painting was good call! I don't know how you managed to squeeze it in with how busy you've been :).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sara. Getting it done was pretty easy...I finished the last of a can of spray paint - one less thing to pack! LOL
DeleteAbsolutely outstanding, Ann and the fact that you created it during a giant move is amazing. You know how much I love those colors, too. I can't stop staring...thanks for hosting another creative hop. Always fun to see what everyone has up their creative sleeves!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim. I will never be able to recreate those colors since I just kept playing with them until it looked like a match. Thanks for being part of this hop!
