Heart Box

This paper mache heart box has been sitting on the shelf for too long.  Time to create something for Valentine's Day!
I grabbed some pretty paper napkins, Mod Podge, and a brush.  Remember to separate the layers of the napkins so you're only using one layer.  I had some leftover pieces that were perfect for this small box.
Starting with the lid, the Mod Podge was brushed on and the pieces of napkin placed down.
When the edge of the lid was covered and dry, I trimmed the top edge with scissors.
The top was covered with Mod Podge.
Another piece of napkin was applied.
The top edge and the edge inside the box were trimmed with a piece of sandpaper.
The box itself was covered in the same manner.
A second coat of Mod Podge was applied and I used some plastic wrap to smooth out any bubbles.  For detailed instructions on decoupage with napkins, click HERE.
The box was almost done.
I had some pink trim that was glued around the edge of the lid.
Now it was done.
The perfect way to wrap a Valentine's Day gift!
It can be filled with chocolates, a gift card, or maybe a shiny, sparkly bauble?

You choose!

  11. Ann, your heart box is beautiful!!! I have some old 1990's paper-wrapped boxes that I just can't part with because they are beautiful with their roses on them. Your idea to find a pretty napkin and cover more would be a nice addition to my Craft Room collection of pretty boxes. <3 Thank you for the idea!!!

Happy Galentine's to you and enjoy your Valentine's Day this weekend! Fun hopping with you, as always, <3

  15. This is also a destash. Very pretty. Thanks for posting at Funtastic Friday. I used to teach that tip with the clear plastic wrap to smooth out the paper. It always works and it's always so surprising to people.

    1. It certainly is a destash - It's becoming a habit with a pandemic! I'm always surprised that more people don't know the plastic wrap trick too. It's a lifesaver!
