Easy Summer Centerpiece

Welcome back to 10 on the 10th. A monthly blog hop where a group of bloggers share ideas for $10 or less.  This month's theme is Summer Party and we have some great ideas for you.  Now, I realize parties are at a minimum right now due to Covid-19, but a Household Party or Party for 2 is always a good idea!
It's summer and we are spending a lot of time outdoors enjoying our yard and covered porch.  I decided the table needed a centerpiece so I made 2 stops:  a local nursery and the dollar store.  
At the nursery I bought 2 pots of petunias, and the dollar store produced a planter and a pink flamingo.
The two pots of petunias were planted after adding some plastic as a liner.  
A little 'kitsch' was needed since it's summer and there's a pandemic, and..................well, you know.  So I added a flamingo!
He makes me smile!
If flamingos aren't your thing, you can always take it out and just enjoy the flowers.
I may not be having a lot of guests this summer, but my husband and I are enjoying the flowers along with the hummingbirds, who were a little too shy for a picture!

 This was a very easy, budget-minded project.  Here's the breakdown:
2 pots of petunias -  $6
dollar store planter - $1
flamingo                   - $1
Total:                           $8

    I am sure this cute pot of flowers brightens up the porch - you cant go wrong with petunias!! My petunias are doing great this summer - they must love the 90' weather! And the flamingo is adorable in it! Thanks for organizing this party for us!

      All of my petunias are doing great...drinking lots of water in this heat, though! I just love the amount of color they add to a space.

    The hot pink is so summery. I have one of those pots and never used it because didn't know what to do with it. Thanks for the idea. Love the flamingo added touch.

    Very pretty! Love the Pink Flamingo.... those Petunias are so pretty, sadly always much too hot here in Texas to grow them.

      Thank you, Tammy. When I lived in the desert, petunias never grew well. We've had a lot of heat and humidity here lately and they're drinking water like crazy!

    Very sweet, Ann!!! I love your little pink flamingo (and of course the French style flower pots!!!) Who wouldn't?? I hope you will have a few people over this summer to enjoy being with you at your beautiful home. Glad the petunias are bringing in the hummers for you to enjoy their visits. <3

    Great idea to add a flamingo. My husband and I are making the best of our time together.

    Stinks I have missed many gatherings I normally have here from spring through July.

Wine Cork Wreath

Just a note...I promised to share the wreath and picture in a previous post.  Here they are: Now, if you're anything like me, you've been saving wine corks for forever because there is a fabulous project that you will just HAVE to make with them.  The problem is, you haven't found it yet! Have no fear, your project is here! To get started, you will need lots of these: How many, you ask?  I estimate that I used between 200 and 250 corks.  You will also need a straw wreath, like this: Don't forget to remove the plastic! This next step is extremely important! Wrap some wire around the wreath and make a loop for hanging.  There is nothing worse than getting your wreath all done and then say to yourself, "Hmmm, how the heck do I hang this thing!?! How To Decoupage Dresser Drawers - With Napkins!

Welcome back!  Last week you saw a garage sale dresser transformed with paint and decoupaged napkins.  If you missed it, click here .  Today I have a little tutorial showing how it was done.  Let's get started, shall we? The drawers were sanded down to bare wood and the edges were painted black to match the rest of the dresser.  The napkins were found at the Dollar Store. Notice they are 2-ply napkins?  You only need one, so separate those layers! Iron the one-layer.  It helps when you are ready to lay it down on the wet decoupage medium.   Since the napkins were not wide enough to cover the entire drawer, I was going to have to piece them together.  These napkins also had a very definite pattern that was going to need matching, so it was time for some measuring.  I found the middle of the drawer and matched it to the middle of the napkin.  Then I marked the edges of the napkin on the edge of the drawer with chalk.  See the white (chalk) dot? No More Polycrylic for My Tables!

Behold, my newly refinished table - once again!  Yes, this is the second time this little beauty has been refinished. The table was originally refinished in 2013.  I carefully sanded, stained, and sealed it with polycrylic.  Everyone in blogland was singing the praises of polycrylic, so I thought I'd give it a try.  It went on great, clean-up was easy, and it dried quickly.   Win-Win, right?  WRONG!! After about a year and a half, I started noticing some wear on the edges of the table.  You know, the spot where people rest their arms?  As time went on, these spots actually started to feel a bit sticky and you could see them: It was really difficult to get a picture of them, but, if you look carefully where the arrows are pointing, you'll see dull spots in the finish.  We lived with it for a while, then I told my husband, "As soon as the weather gets nice, this table has a date with my sander!"
