Yard Sale Finds - Without the Yard Sale!
If your area is anything like mine, yard sale season has ground to a halt. Due to Covid-19, area city-wide sales have been cancelled and there just aren't any individual ones - not that I'd feel comfortable going to them anyway.
That being said, I was 'gifted' some treasures by friends who bought a house to rehab. To be perfectly honest, this was better than a yard sale because all of them were free! It all started when these two pieces were lifted out of the bed of the truck and they asked, "Do you want them?"

Like they had to ask?!
The stool had about a million tacks in it along with two layers of fabric.
The case has some pretty rotted leather and my friend gave me some leather she had so I could replace it. How did I not know she had leather in her stash?? The inside is lined with fabric and there's a perfectly round hole in the middle.
I have no idea what it was used for, so if you have any ideas, let me know!
A few days later, I received a text with pictures of more goodies. Here's what was dropped off at my door:
The green chairs have original distressing and I've already repaired to split in the one seat.
Wood glue and giant rubber bands to the rescue! These won't be chairs for sitting anymore, but I've got an idea for them....
There were some cross pieces and legs:
Also, well-distressed!
This chair will be cut-up and repurposed.
That half-eaten cushion has been removed already.
The washboards are just darling and designed for washing 'delicates'.
They really are 'cuteness overload'.
And then there was the drying rack. It's very wobbly and HUGE!
Because of it's condition, my trusty hammer and I took it apart for the wood.
Anyone need dowels???
So, for a gal who was mourning the loss of yard sale season, I had a pretty good week and acquired enough projects to keep me busy for a while...not that I didn't already have a few left from the last season!
But it wasn't over....................
Yesterday, I received another text. A few hours later, this arrived:
I couldn't believe it! I love old telephone benches and already own a couple of chairs with a flower back. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. But, there was still more!
I had a feeling the base of the lamp on the left was also a nightlight, so I grabbed a bulb and plugged it in last night:
My husband, who originally said, "That's the ugliest lamp I've ever seen in my life" now loves it and informed me we need to find a bigger house for all the cool things!
Right about now, I'm feeling like the luckiest girl in town and I definitely have a few projects to keep me busy. How are you dealing with yard sale withdrawal?

I need to HAVE a garage sale, but conditions aren't perfect, so it will just have to wait!
ReplyDeleteIf I only lived closer, I'd go to your yard sale!
DeleteYou acquired some great items! Can't wait to see what you do with the green chairs!
ReplyDeleteI am so lucky! I hope you'll follow so you'll see those chairs when they are done!
DeleteYou found some great things! I see so many DIYs here. I love the washboards.
ReplyDeleteYes, these new 'finds' will keep me busy this summer. I can't wait!
DeleteYou are so lucky! I wish I had a friend like that!
ReplyDeleteI really am! The sad part was, they had already taken several truckloads to the dump before they thought of me. I was heartbroken when I heard that.
DeleteHow fun! I haven’t seen any garage/yard sales around here at all. I love the lamps, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with us today =)
No yard sales here either. Thankfully, I have a friend who is rehabbing a house.
DeleteFun finds. My sister has been finding single chairs, refinishing them, and adding them around her table. She wants all one of a kind. I love the creative ideas that are coming out of isolating at home.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the different chairs. There are so many treasures that are just going to the landfills...it breaks my heart!
DeleteThanks for stopping by, come back again soon!
Hope you will posts the finished products: this is just like watching HGTV! Would love to see how these will be transformed.

I definitely will. Now if HGTV would just give me a show!
DeleteDefinitely in yard sale withdrawal here! Your things are have a lot of potential, and I am sure will be put to great use.
ReplyDeleteMe, too....it's so sad. Last year, I had a banner year with great finds. Hopefully, they will come back at some point.
DeleteThank you for stopping by, Cynthia. Come back again soon!
I loved your treasures. My equivalent of your green chairs are an off white; my grandparents dragged them up from the cellar for big family meals! Someone would have loved that laundry rack. I line dry all of my clothes. I remember having a small rack over the hot air register to dry cloth diapers (those babies are 37 and 38)! Would lenjoy seeing your finished projects!
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how certain items bring back so many memories! Thank you for stopping by, come back again soon to see what i do with my latest treasures!
DeleteThat lamp!!!! LOVE! What a nice friend you have to think of you and take the trouble to bring all this over for you rather than just throwing it out! I'm excited to see what you make with all these things!
ReplyDeleteTania
The ugly lamp - according to my husband - who now loves it?? lol
DeleteYes, she is the best! I just wish I had gotten to them earlier, before they took several truckloads to the dump.
Stay tuned for the future posts!
What great finds! I'm so ready to get some great thrift stuff to have fun with again. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chas. I think we're all ready to head to a yard sale or thrift store. Hopefully soon!
DeleteThose are some exciting finds. You are blessed with such a wonderful friend. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThey sure are! I've been working on a couple of them while getting other things done around the house. I hope you'll stop back for future updates.
DeleteMy pleasure, Marilyn. Hope you are all well!
ReplyDeleteLucky you, Ann. same here with no yard sales. But my neighbors have been cleaning out their homes. I've picked up some great items off the curb in April and May before the bulk pick up truck came. You will have so much fun restoring these items.
ReplyDeleteYes, yard sale season is a bit sad this year, but we DIYers are resourceful and I now have lots to keep me busy. Thank you so much for stopping by!
DeleteWhat a windfall of goodies! You so lucked out and I'm thrilled for you. No yard or estate sales here -- heavy sigh. I do have a stash but it is dwindling. Guess I'll have to start checking out the curbs:) Can't wait to see what do with all these fabulous finds! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm. xo Kathleen
