My Latest Finds

Yard Sale & Estate Sale Season are in full swing around here and I've been frequenting a few of them.  OK, I'll be honest....a LOT of them.  Sometimes they are an absolute 'win' and sometimes they are a total 'bust'.  I also fell in love with the house at a recent Estate Sale that could totally be our next home, but that's another story.......In spite of that, I've found a few treasures that I wanted to share with all of you. Here's a peek at my finds from a recent Saturday:
Let's start with that painting in the back.  The actual painting didn't do much for me, but the frame did.  It's 3 feet tall and surprisingly light.  I can only imagine what kind of wood it is (maybe balsa?). It also has some pretty details:
I asked the man how much he wanted for it and the response was $10.  More than I wanted to spend.  When his wife came out, he checked with her and she said $5.  Now we were getting somewhere.  I walked around the sale for a bit and then asked if she would take $3.  She said, 'Yes'! I couldn't get my cash out fast enough!
I've started working on it and will share it in the near future.  For now, let's just say it involves a paint called 'Peacock' and there won't be a painting in it...any guesses?

Next is the brass pot.
It sat on a table with lots of other household goodies and had a price of $2.  I knew it was brass and I loved the shape of it.  After a little bit of metal polish and some elbow grease, it shined right up.
I was really hoping for a Genie and 3 wishes, but, no luck!  Maybe next time.  Right now, it's on my coffee table along with some coasters, a magazine, some remotes, and a nail file.  Not the vignette you were hoping for, right?  Lol

The next little treasure found was the Bakelite mirror.  It was perfect for my Vintage Dressing Table.  It was also a pretty good match for the one piece I have from my grandmother's vanity dresser set.
No monogram, but that's OK.  It still looks like it belongs and for $2, it was a great find.

Last, but not least, is the pink ceramic Christmas tree.  It's about a foot tall, the light still works and the price was $1.50.  How could I go wrong?
It's very dirty and those some of those lovely blue lights seem to be glued-in.  I am open to any and all ideas for removing them.  Please chime-in with a comment.
A single Saturday morning of Yard Sales + $8.50 out of my wallet = One Happy Gal!

Do you love yard/estate sales as much as I do?  What is your favorite find?  I'd love to hear about it and your ideas for getting those lights out!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

I hope you'll pin, share, comment, and follow.  If you click on those 3 little lines at the top right of the blog, you'll see where to find me...or click on 'share'.

  4. Quite a haul! The mirror and hair receiver are more likely celluloid than bakelite. I've got an extensive collection of celluloid dresser accessories and misc. items.

    1. I agree, 5 was fine, but I thought it was worth a shot to try for 3 - and it worked! It's getting a whole new look, too. I just hope I can get the glued-in lights out of the tree. If not, I'll have to get creative!
So glad you stopped by. Come back again soon!

  6. On the tree, try a little alcohol ---many glues will break down with that--and it won't hurt the ceramic!

Wow, great shopping day. I am in love with that frame. It looks like it might be walnut. This post is being featured on my Pink Saturday post this week as "the one that caught my eye".♥

    1. Thank you so much, Beverly. I thought the frame might be walnut too, until I picked it up. It is very light, so I guess they just used walnut stain!
