A New Cottage!

Yes, it's finally happening!  After a long search, we have found another house and will be closing soon.  If you've been following you know the funny story that goes along with the selling of the Cottage.  If you missed it, click HERE for the details.

I'm not really sure that the new house qualifies as a 'cottage' since it was built in 1890 and has two stories, but as soon as we walked into it, we knew it was the right house for us.  The people we are buying it from did all the hard work - believe me, our shoulders are thanking them - so all that is left is the gardens and decorating.  (Insert 'Happy Dance' here)

I love the staircase!

This is the nook off the dining room.

There are lots of things to do before I ever get to the kitchen, but I need a little help.  You see, I've always wanted white kitchen cabinets (just take a look at my Kitchen Board on Pinterest) but these are beautiful wood cabinets and there's no way I'm going to paint them.  My usual colors are pastel yellows, blues, greens, etc. What do you think of those colors with these cabinets?  And what about a backsplash?  So many decisions....help me out with your comments, OK?

There are more pictures, but who wants to look at an empty bedroom, right?  I'll show all of that once I get to the decorating.  In the meantime, we're pretty excited and can't wait to move!
Life's about to get busy so make sure you stop back for all the adventures!
Thanks for stopping by the 'new' Cottage!

  2. Just looking at these few pictures got me enthusiastic about decorating and it's not even MY house. Best of luck with it! I think your pastels would be lovely with the wood cabinets. Even though my kitchen is dark, I love my late 80's oak cabinets. I'm sure you'll find some solutions; replacing some center panels with lace or glass, covering centers with white Contac paper? I think a lot of the farmhouse white kitchens look so sterile; I think you could do surgery on the countertops, not live in them! I'd recommend living in the house for a while and the right think to do will come to you in time!

    1. Thank you for all of your ideas, Kathy. I will definitely be living in it for a while before I do anything. The first thing on the list will be starting the vegetable garden!
      So glad you stopped by!

  3. How exciting, good luck with the move. I like wooden kitchen cupboards and think these would look great with some pastel lemon accessories thrown in, maybe a soft green too, keeping it citrus and light?

  4. So exciting. Congrats. For the past two years I have been blogging about the progress of our coastal home. It is a fun way to document our progress and putting my ideas and projects out there makes me a little more accountable. LOL. It will be fun to see your vision come to life too. 5. Love that stairway. I would go ahead and have the cabinets painted white, then you can use any colors you want to. I would also take the cabinet/shelf type thing above the sink down and redo it. It could be a much more attractive space without it. Just my perspective, will enjoy seeing what you do with your lovely new home.
