How to Display Shiny Brite Ornaments Safely

Raise your hand if you have vintage/Shiny Brite ornaments and you struggle with displaying them.

Just as I thought!  You want them displayed and seen by everyone but the thought of them breaking...well....breaks your heart!

Let's look at the options:

Putting them on the tree.  Not a great idea, especially if you have children or pets.

Displaying them in a pretty bowl.  Again not a good idea if you have children or pets....or Cousin Eddie comes over, bumps into the table they are on and sends the bowl flying.

Neither option works, so how about a glass jar like this one I found at a yard sale last summer?  Let me show you what I did!
This is what you'll need (besides your Shiny Brites):

Start by placing a string of fairy lights in the bottom of the jar.
Add some poly-fill to the jar and start placing your ornaments.  I also rolled a bit of batting to place in the middle of the jar.  It helps hold the ornaments in place.
I continued adding ornaments and lights.

I kept adding ornaments, lights, and poly-fill...

...until the jar was full!
Honestly, that's it.  The ornaments were snug in the jar and if you want a little extra assurance, put a little sticky tack on the lid.  That way, if Cousin Eddie comes over, your Shiny Brites have a fighting chance!
My Shiny Brite ornaments are currently displayed up high - safe from children, pets, and Cousin Eddie!

Merry Christmas!

By the way...raise your hand if you got the Cousin Eddie reference.  Here's a hint:
He's in one of my favorite Christmas movies!

  4. Great idea. I set them in my dishes inside my china cabinet and in all the antique wine glasses, and I purchased an antique silver tier tray which will be full this year also.

  6. LOL! Cousin Eddie would be sleeping outside if he bumped my vintage ornaments, and not in his camper either! I love the way the batting looks like snow, this is the perfect way to display them Ann! You are so creative.

  10. What a great idea for protecting your vintage glass ornaments! I could kick myself for not purchasing a box of the Shiny Brite ornaments when I saw them at thrift/antique store last year. I must have been feeling very cheap that day LOL. I'll be featuring you at this week's #HomeMattersParty. Thanks for sharing!
