It's Apple Season!

That's right, my friends.  While everyone else is excited about pumpkin spice, here at the Cottage, it's all about apples!  Now, don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against pumpkins, but if I had to choose, apples would win every single time!

That's why I'm sharing with you my 3 favorite apple recipes.  They're easy and taste delicious!

First, and most important is my Applesauce Recipe.  Most important because I use it in place of vegetable oil.  Around here, we've stopped using most cooking oils including vegetable, sunflower, canola, etc.  The reason?  They are processed with Hexane, a chemical commonly extracted from petroleum and crude oil.  I've read the levels of it are safe, but, personally, I don't want any petroleum products (that are also used in glue, varnish, and ink) in the food I eat.
To make applesauce, all you need is a bag of apples, a half cup of brown sugar and a cup of water.
Cook them down and smooth out any lumps with an immersion blender.  Very easy and you won't be able to go back to store bought applesauce ever again!
You can find the detailed instructions HERE.

Next, let me share my Apple Muffins. This recipe uses the applesauce that you (hopefully) just made!  You only need four apples and, trust me, your house will smell AMAZING!
Click HERE for all the details.

Since you can never have too many muffin recipes, be sure to give these Apple Cider Donut Muffins a try.  There is no frying involved (that makes them healthier, right?), but they taste just like apple cider donuts.

The details can be found HERE.

If you're ready for a break from pumpkin everything, give these recipes a try.  They are tested right here at the Cottage and are more than 'approved'.  Just ask my husband!

Happy Fall, Everyone! 🍂

  1. I had no idea you could substitute applesauce in place of vegetable oil, Ann! Would it be the same ratio or something different? I love apples over pumpkins, too! I will use fake pumpkins in decor, but cooked pumpkins upset my stomach, so I stay away from them. We had an apple tree growing up and my mom made lots of apple desserts! And when my hubby and I moved into our first home, my dad planted an apple tree there. Our yard backed up to woods, and the apple tree became dinner for the many deer and squirrels that were there. It was always a race to see if we could salvage any apples at all from that tree.
