Jute Twine Ornament

It's November and the holiday crafting is in full swing!  Today I have an easy, inexpensive ornament for you to make.  It can be a little messy, but, trust me, it's easy!
Welcome back to Ten on the 10th - a group of bloggers sharing ideas and inspiration for under $10.  This is a Blog Hop so everyone participating will be listed at the end of this post.  The theme for this month is 'Ornaments' so let's get started!
Here are the basics for this project:
White glue (that dries clear), jute twine, and some balloons.

Before we go on, let me say I tried to find water balloons since they are round and small.  In the fall, they were nowhere to be found, so I went with a bag of 15 12" balloons from the dollar store.

**********

Blow up your balloon to the size you want, tie it off, and add a small string for hanging.  Your ornament will need to hang during the drying process.
After adding the glue to a container, I mixed it with water - 2 parts glue to 1 part water.  Don't do that!  I found the ornament didn't feel solid enough after several hours of drying, so I rubbed more glue all over it for strength.  The next time, I'm using just glue.
I ran the jute twine through the glue mixture wiping off the excess with my fingers.

Then I started wrapping it around the balloon. Be sure to leave an opening to remove the popped balloon after everything is dry.
See my 'gluey fingers'?  I told you it was messy!
Then I hung it up to dry overnight.
The next morning, I popped and removed the balloon.
A piece of jute was tied on for hanging.

Time to embellish!  Believe it or not, this is the easiest part!  I found this little beauty at the dollar store:
And it had an alligator clip on the back!
Just clip it on your twine ball and your ornament is finished!

The cost to make this ornament is well under $10.  Here's the breakdown:
Glue -                $0.99
Balloons -            1
Jute Twine -         1
Embellishment -   1___
                         $3.99
The best part is you still have lots of balloons, twine, and glue to make more!

Now, take a few minutes to visit everyone else to see their ornaments.  Their blogs are listed below:

  5. This is such a cute idea! I love that you can customize them for any themed tree. I'm going to try this, and my son is going to love you because he'll get to pop the balloons, ha. He loves popping balloons, but I guess all kids do. This idea is perfect if you want custom ornaments, but don't have a huge budget for Christmas decor. Using an alligator clip pick is a great idea too because you can just remove them then place the twine balls in a bowl to use as a centerpiece all year long.
    Happy hopping!
