Christmas Barn

I'm back! After 3 weeks of healing my injured finger and dealing with a bad flair-up of my vertigo, I am finally on the road to recovery...the sad thing is my 'holiday mojo' seems to have disappeared.  I just don't have the enthusiasm that I normally do at this time of the year and I'm not sure if it's because of my recent health issues or just 2020.  Is anyone else feeling the same way?  I need to shake this off, so any and all suggestions are welcome.

In spite of that, I do have a sweet little project to share with you today.  This one was started a few months ago and the only things left were a few finishing touches.
As many of my projects do, this little barn started out as a scrap of wood.  I drew the pattern and cut it out.
Naturally, I started cutting and then realized I needed a picture!  You love that about me, don't you!  LOL

Since the barn needed a roof, I grabbed some popsicle sticks, gave it a quick measure, and cut them with a hacksaw.
A quick coat of black craft paint and the pieces were glued on.
Next were the doors.
I can honestly say I did not measure this.  I 'eyeballed' it, put down some painters tape, and started painting.  I forgot pictures of this part and I guess I'll blame my cut finger and vertigo.  But, here's the used tape as proof:
Yes, that is a piece of my hair stuck to the tape - proof that it gets everywhere!

To 'add a little Christmas' to the project, I painted a wreath above the doors. I started making little v's (sort of) in a circle.
I continued with a lighter shade of green and, low and behold, it looked like a wreath.
Some red berries were painted on and a bow was added.
I did give it a quick spray of clear Krylon before adding the bow.

And a little Christmas barn was done and ready to sit on a shelf!

At least that's one Christmas project completed.  Now tell me, are you busy working on holiday projects or are you in a slump?
Be sure to stop back next time for the 'Do It Over' Designers hop.  We're always upcycling and DIYing!

  1. The wreath over the barn doors is the perfect finishing touch to your adorable Christmas barn, Ann! I'd like to say that you are not alone with your feelings. I seem to be dragging and forcing myself to complete projects this year. I use to love working in the yard with my flowers but not this year. Now I just rush through things to get them out of the way. I'm glad you're on the road to recovery, but I don't envy you having vertigo. I had a terrible bout with it several years ago and for a time had to have lots of Epley maneuvers to get my inner ear back to normal. Take care and I hope both of us will find our mojo once again!

    1. I can't tell you how much better it makes me feel to hear I'm not the only one, Gail. It's so unlike me, but I did start cleaning my craft room yesterday and organization does help a bit. As for my vertigo, I live with it constantly, but when it flairs up it's a nightmare. I do my own Epley maneuvers, but it just takes time. Here's to better days ahead, my friend. Thank you for stopping by!

  2. That is just darling, Ann! I love it and I love the directions for painting the wreath. My daughter recently made a fan blade barn and I was thinking it could use a friend. Now I know how to make one of my own. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better...and yes, it's a hard year to feel festive. I just swapped out my living room curtains (again) and added two small lit trees I grabbed curbside and I'm *beginning* to feel a little festive...but it's not the same burst of joy I usually get this time of year. However, from the comments it doesn't seem like I'm alone..take care friend.

    1. Thank you, Kim. It's been a stressful year and I think we'll all be glad to say goodbye to this one. It's good to hear I'm not alone and I think I just need to give myself a little push to get motivated. I'll have to stop by your blog to see what you're latest additions!

    1. Thank you so much. The little v's were the easiest way I could think of to make a wreath.

  4. Adorable and the finishing touch is the wreath, perfect.

2020 has taken alot away and I was not letting it take Christmas too.

I play Christmas music or watch Christmas movies and decorated as always.

It may be just hubby, me and the pups but no way was I depriving us of a wonderful holiday season!

  6. So lovely, what a sweet idea for holiday decorating.
I'm doing some Christmas projects for the blog and have done a bit of my Christmas shopping but I've not been able to think about decorating just yet - Once it's december I think I'll be ready, it's just all a bit weird this year isn't it? I glad you are on the road to recovery.
