Key Rack to Jewelry Organizer

Image
Projects are in full-swing around here - work on the side porch, flea market finds.... honestly, I'm making a mess!  When they're all done, though, things will be beautiful!   I couldn't wait to share this one with you -  I've been looking for a jewelry organizer for a long time.  I've pinned a bunch of them on Pinterest , but I just couldn't find the right thing to upcycle.  That all changed last week when I found an old key rack at the flea market: It was perfect and I knew EXACTLY what to do with it! First, I removed the cross-stitch from the center.  I used the cardboard to trace on a piece of needlework plastic canvas - which, by the way, I also found at the flea market - and they gave a piece for free! I set that aside, so the painting could begin.  I spray painted the edges black since I was planning to distress this piece and I really like contrast. When that was dry, I gave it 3 coats of  white latex. After the wh...

Black & Blue

Those are the colors I chose for the $10 bar stools I bought at the flea market.  Why those colors, you may ask?   If you remember the little desk I repainted -you can find it HERE .   and the craft table - that is HERE , it was a perfect match.   The craft table is high and my legs tend to get tired standing.  Yes, I am getting old!  We also have a bar - so they can do double-duty! In my excitement to get this project started, I forgot to take 'before' pictures, but, here's a shot of the bottom of the seat: They were bare wood - no finish to scuff, just dirt and cobwebs! This was a very easy project - after cleaning the dirt and cobwebs -  tape and cover the seats, spray paint the legs, uncover the seats, paint with the same blue paint used on the little blue desk...DONE! Now I can spend more time 'getting crafty'  without tired legs!  Since we are having a rainy week, I think that's exactly what I will be doing! ...

One Little Piggy...

Image
It's a sunny day at the cottage and I can't wait to get outside.  But, before I do, I just have to share this Piggy with you: I was at a flea market this weekend and when I asked the vendor what it was, he handed it to me and said, "Here, it's yours".  It's definitely going to get a makeover, however.... The big question?    WHAT IS IT?  A few of my friends have come up with ideas - napkin holder, file organizer, plate rack....so, I am asking you, dear readers.  Any ideas? The dimensions are:  10" long, 6" wide, & 9.5" high (up to the pig feet).   I'd love to know your thoughts on this one. Enjoy your day - I hope it's sunny where you are!! Spring Cleaning

Image
I'm back!  If you remember my last post, I've been cutting back on computer time and my neck and shoulder are thanking me.  Not spending time on the computer has freed me up to work on some projects, though.   My scrapbooking is in full swing and the lovely folks at Hometalk asked me to curate a board on Outdoor Cleaning .  It's Spring and if your house is anything like mine, there's plenty of outdoor clean-up to be done! You may remember my fence post from last Fall: Click on the pic to go to the post. This post is included on the board, but it's only one of 18 tips to get your outdoor space ready for the warm weather.  Check it out: Click on the graphic to go to the board. Be sure to stop by to visit me at Hometalk .  I'm sure you will find at least one tip to use at your house!   Thanks for stopping by the Cottage!
