Let's Make a Mini Christmas Tree

Since downsizing to a smaller house it's been my mission to also downsize my belongings. That includes the thrifted, yard sale, estate sale, and road-side finds stashed in my craft room.  Believe me when I say there are plenty of them and I have my work cut-out for me!
That being said, let's get started on this little tree!

Welcome to the 'Do It Over' Designers blog hop. We are a group of bloggers who love to recycle/upcycle/DIY. I'm happy to host this hop and I hope you'll visit everyone to see what they have to share with you. This time our theme is 'The Holidays'. The links will be listed at the end of this post.

This is an easy project that can be completed with just a few items.  I pulled out my stash of thrifted lace & trims, jewelry, burlap, and old doorknobs.

Add glue, the hot glue gun, a small dowel, styrofoam cone, and some Rub 'n Buff (not shown).

Start by coating your styrofoam cone with glue and covering it with a piece of burlap.
While that's drying, choose a piece of lace trim.  Use the glue to attach it over the burlap.
Next, using your hot glue gun, attach the string of pearls to the lace.
Honestly, I must have miles of this stuff.  I found it at a yard sale for a dollar and it's going to last me the rest of my life!

Now it's time to turn your attention to those brass doorknobs.  I started by using Brasso on one of them.
It really cut through the tarnish, but, as you can see, the doorknob had lots of damage.
Rub 'n Buff to the rescue!
Just squeeze a little out and rub it in.
Buff for a little shine and all is well again!
Much better!  Not perfect, but that's OK.  They're old and have a story to tell!
I even rubbed a little on the dowel before pushing it into the bottom of the cone.
Not shown, but I used a dab of hot glue before placing the dowel and tree in the doorknob.  Then I used a little around the base of the dowel and covered it with some jute.
With the main parts all in place, some lace trim was applied to the lower edge of the tree.
Pearl 'ornaments' were attached to the tree with straight pins.
A vintage earring became the tree topper.
One mini Christmas tree completed!
Since I still have another doorknob and plenty of pearls, I may need to make another one.
Honestly, can you have too many mini Christmas trees?

If you haven't stopped by lately, you may not have heard we bought a new cottage.  I've started a series of posts on the work being done here and I hope you'll take a minute to read them...so much going on!

Now, don't run away.  This is a blog hop and the rest of the team has some wonderful ideas to share with you.
