Let's Make ANOTHER Glass bowl Christmas Tree!

That's right!  It's time to make another glass bowl Christmas tree.  You may remember the one I made last year.  Wow, was that a popular post!  Since then, I've been collecting thrifted glass and have a new one to share.  

The process has 4 easy steps and to be perfectly honest, the hardest part is

Step 1: Finding the Glass.  

For all the details on finding your glass, check out the original post.  Keep in mind, the pieces have to stack together and you want some flared edges to give you that 'Christmas tree' look.  This time I found a hefty candlestick to serve as the trunk of the tree and a beautiful plate with pointed edges. Sometimes those flared edge bowls are elusive!

Even without as many flared edges, you can still make a pretty tree and I was thrilled to find a glass bell as a topper.

Step 2:  Clean your Glass Bowls

As long as they're not crystal (which I try to avoid), you can put them in the dishwasher.  Otherwise, wash them in warm soapy water.

Step 3:  Glue the Bowls Together

The glue will need plenty of drying time so this step will take the most time.  I used E6000 and it IS smelly.  The label contains warnings so I cracked the window.  You may want to do this outside and/or wear a mask.  You get it - do as I say, not as I do!

The pieces were glued in pairs, starting with the candlestick and the plate.  I turned the candlestick upside-down and applied the glue to the edge.

The glass plate was centered on the candlestick. 

The two pieces were set aside to dry.

Next the two largest bowls.

Also set aside to dry.

Then the two smaller pieces - a bowl and a candle holder.

The next day, the two largest pieces (now glued together) were glued to the plate.

After waiting another day, the next two were added.

Almost there....

One more day and the glass bell was glued on.

Why all the waiting?  I wanted to make sure the glue was dry.  These trees become very heavy as they're built and I didn't want any catastrophes!

Step 5:  Add Lights

Fairy lights work great.  They bend enough so they 'hug' your tree.

The best part of creating these glass bowl trees is you never know what your final tree will look like.  It all depends on the pieces you find and how you put them together.
